Summit County will require sprinklers for distilleries
Unfortunately, as currently written, the amendments to the International Fire Code will also require a ventilation system that will make proper aging of whiskey impossible and require cost prohibitive secondary containment.

Joe Moylan of the the Summit Daily News reported Oct. 7, 2013, that fire officials from three Summit County fire protection districts are reviewing the fire codes as part of a regularly scheduled six-year review. Moylan indicates the Copper Mountain Consolidated Metropolitan District, Lake Dillon, and Red, White & Blue fire protection districts should adopt the amended fire code by the end of October, 2013 with local towns expected to follow suit. The changes in the fire codes could impact distilleries in Blue River, Breckenridge, Dillon, Dyersville, Frisco, Heeney, Keystone, Montezuma, Silverthorne and unincorporated parts of Summit County.

The International Fire Code is a model code developed and written by the International Code Council (ICC). The ICC produces several codes including the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Fire Code (IFC). Governing bodies review the International Code and use local amendments to further clarify any items that pertain to their specific jurisdiction. Once a governing body officially adopts the International Code and the local amendments as their local code; then, the code and amendments are laws that owners, architects, engineers and contractors are required to follow when designing and constructing new projects.
